Come enjoy Jamaican Curry Goat at our restaurent on Sukhumvit Road in Bangkok, Thailand.
In Jamaica, "Curry Goat" is a staple dish that has been enjoyed for many generations. It is believed that the dish was introduced by Indian immigrants who brought their curry spices to Jamaica in the 19th century.
Here is a classic recipe for this beloved dish:
Ingredients:
- 1 kg goat meat, cut into chunks
- 2 tbsp curry powder
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 scallions, chopped
- 1 tbsp thyme leaves
- 1 tbsp ginger, grated
- 1 scotch bonnet pepper, seeded and minced
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 2 cups water
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions:
1. Season the goat meat with salt and pepper. In a large bowl, mix the curry powder with a little water to form a paste.
2. In a heavy-bottomed pot, heat the oil over medium-high heat. Add the curry paste and cook for 1 minute.
3. Add the onion, garlic, scallions, thyme, ginger, and scotch bonnet pepper. Cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
4. Add the goat meat and stir until it is coated with the curry mixture.
5. Pour in the water and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low and let the curry simmer for 2 hours or until the meat is tender.
Unfortunately, some of the unique ingredients used in this dish may not be readily available in Bangkok. However, many of the common ingredients such as curry powder, onion, garlic, and ginger can be found in local markets.
